Bản tin đã vinh danh anh Davis Doan người sáng lập và điều hành tổ chức từ thiện này cho tới trước khi anh từ trần vào tháng 5 vừa qua.

In support of Habitat for Humanity Toronto
Students from the University of Toronto as well as the greater U of T community invite you to help build homes and hope for Toronto families in need of affordable housing.Through the University of Toronto Campaign for Habitat for Humanity Toronto, students, staff and alumni will raise critical funds to cover the cost of one Habitat home to be built here in Toronto for one local family. We hope to raise $80,000 and with your help we will reach this goal!
In Memory of Davis Doan
Habitat for Humanity Toronto is deeply saddened to learn that after a valiant struggle with cancer, Habitat Toronto volunteer Davis Doan passed away on May 20, 2010. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
In early 2009 Davis contacted Habitat Toronto to ask if he could try to raise enough money to sponsor one Habitat home. He enthusiastically recruited volunteers for build days, coordinated fundraisers, and advocated on campus for student engagement in community service. His sweet persistence and commitment was inspiring to all who met him. We remain sincerely grateful for Davis’ leadership and generosity of spirit.
In Davis' own words about why he started fundraising for Habitat Toronto: “I started volunteering with Habitat Toronto a year ago. It was truly an amazing experience to actually learn how to build a home - to cut the wood using power tools, to put up the exterior and interior walls, to put up the dry wall etc. It felt really empowering that I could actually make a difference… I'm doing this because I want other students to have similar experiences. I want other students to experience building a house with their own hands, to develop their leadership and communication skills, to make new friends, to have a project that they can call their own… I know I can’t solve all of the world’s problems but sponsoring and building an energy efficient student built home for a low income family is one thing that I know as students we can do, so let’s work together and do something we will be proud of for a lifetime.”
Anh Davis Doãn ( minh Tiến) rất thông minh và hiếu học. Học bổng và giải thưởng anh đoạt được đã đưa anh lên hàng nhừng sinh viên ưu tú nhất của Canada.(1). Anh thuộc vào thế hệ thứ ba của cộng đồng người Việt Hải Ngoại và xuất thân thân từ một gia dinh cựu quân nhân QLVNCH ,
Những việc làm của anh Davis Doãn minh Tiến đã là một điểm son cho cộng dồng tỵ nạn chúng ta. Tha thiết mong bà con xa gần rộng mở từ tâm giúp cho Eyes of Hope có thêm phương tiện tài chánh để tiếp tục thực hiện nhửng chương trình từ thiện của tổ chức.
Thiết nghĩ đây cũng là một dip để mỗi người chúng ta bày tỏ niềm thương tiếc đối với một người bạn trẻ đa tài, giàu thiện tâm nhưng đã ra đi quá sớm.
