Tại phương Tây, có một bài ca rất được giới trẻ yêu chuộng, đặc biệt vào mùa Giáng sinh. Thoạt nghe, tưởng lầm là một bài Thánh ca, vì cái tên của nó là Hallelujah. Tác phẩm này do Leonard Cohen soạn nhạc và lời. Hallelujah có nghĩa là “Tạ ơn Thiên chúa”.
Tuy nhiên, đằng sau nhiều hình tượng thánh thiện, đây là tiếng kêu não nùng của con người trần tục gọi Thiên chúa, nhưng Ngài vắng mặt, và hoài niệm tình yêu này chỉ còn là đổ vỡ. Nghe kỹ bài Halleluyah, thính giả sẽ khám phá, bài ca này kể về lòng ham muốn, nỗi đam mê nhục dục, bước sa cơ và mất mát trong thân phận bèo bọt một con người khao khát điều Vĩnh Hằng.
Hallelujah trong tiếng Do thái có nghĩa là “Rạng danh Yahveh” và Yahveh là Thiên chúa. Người Do thái thốt lên câu Hallelujah để tỏ lòng biết ơn Thiên Ghúa...
